We previously told you about the immense importance of sustainable medical waste management and how our Christof Systems team offers effective solutions through their sinTion and shredTion technologies.
The team knows that every hospital and medical institution – large and small, rural and urban – can make a big difference in creating a positive impact on their community’s public and environmental health through sustainable health care management. And that is a message they aim to share far and wide.
For example, they are currently implementing the second phase of an extensive Health Care Waste Management project with the Ministry of Health of Laos. As part of that project, the team received a delegation from the Laotian ministry in Austria last week. Part of the visit was the pre-inspection of the first shipment of our supply contract and extensive training about Medical Waste Management and Quality Management over several days.
Now, let’s take the opportunity to follow their steps and witness how successful collaboration in this field can advance several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals at once.
Day 1
Five members of the Laotian Ministry of Health arrived at the Christof Industries headquarters in Graz, Austria, on Monday, 4th of July. The managing director of Christof Systems GmbH, Wolfgang Nestler, and the project manager, Stefan Dirnberger, welcomed them in Graz and showed them around the workshop, in which the waste management solutions are produced.
Day 2
On Tuesday, the group visited the Medical University of Graz. There, they received interesting insights about the university’s internal processes and the infrastructure they use to tackle the subject of medical waste management. The delegation also saw a sinTion device in action when they gained access to the university’s medical waste treatment facilities.
Afterwards, the group travelled to Carinthia, where the next parts of the busy agenda took place.
Day 3
On Wednesday, the Laotian representatives attended their first training module supported by Albin Knauder, a renouned expert in the field of hospital waste management and hospital quality management. The main focus of this session was the introduction of quality management systems in hospitals and medical institutions.
Afterwards, the group was invited to visit the state hospital of Villach, where they gained further insights from the hospital’s infrastructure manager and the leader of the anesthesiology department.
Day 4
Further training sessions with hospital waste and quality management experts awaited the group on Thursday. First, Kathrin Brugger Illustrated the hygiene measures necessary to establish and operate a sustainable waste management system. Then, Kornelia Fiausch, further elaborated on safety topics that must be considered in relation to medical waste management.
During their days in Styria and Carinthia, the group also took the opportunity to enjoy some sightseeing. After all, one does not get the chance to explore a beautiful Austrian summer around historical buildings, mountains and lakes every day. In this picture, we see the group enjoying the view from the dam in Maltatal, Carinthia.
Day 5
On the last day of their visit, the delegation had time to reflect on their visit while exploring the Austrian capital of Vienna. After another lively exchange of new ideas with the Christof Systems team at lunch, Wolfgang and Stefan thanked the Laotian representative for their visit and saw them off to the Vienna airport.
From there, the group started their journey back home to Laos – filled with tons of new impressions and resources on optimising medical waste management in their country.
